Shannon's Law by Emma Calin Book Blitz

Today, we are hosting Emma Calin and her new release Shannon's Law. Enter the rafflecopter draw for prizes!!!

Thank you so much for letting me showcase my forthcoming steamy action-romance novel SHANNON’S LAW. It’s  the second in my PASSION PATROL series - stories where sassy female cops lock up the criminals and always get their man.

February marks the start of my “Pinterest Reveal Virtual Book Tour” in the run-up to the launch on the 28th February 2014.

Every day there are feature posts on topics relating to SHANNON’S LAW on blogs all around the world.  They’re all linked together on one big Pinterest Board. Each post replaces a ‘mystery’ silhouette that was posted in January. I saved all  my notes and photos as I was writing, on a private Pinterest Board and now I can share them with you.

Today’s subject is: Jewelry from Shannon’s Law – a rather special necklace.

1920's diamond necklace - silver and white gold and 4.75 carats of diamonds

I love jewellery. I don't exactly expect a man to give me baubles but I do expect him to mark me as his. Visible tattoos or labels saying “This woman belongs to X” are out of the question. A few glinting gems on the fingers show that someone wants to show me off.  There's nothing like a hard stone at the top of my cleavage to bring out the softness beneath.

In the story, Shannon has little jewellery. Simply she has not had that depth of relationship. I had a marriage like that so I understood her. In Shannon's Law various items of wonderful jewellery make an appearance. A victim of burglary loses all the mementos of her life and loves. At another point a wonderful necklace makes an appearance. She had never seen such a thing. I remember taking my kids to the Tower of London to see the Crown Jewels. In thinking how Shannon would have reacted  when she saw this item, I tried to recapture my sense of dumb wonder standing in front of the display. In those days my fingers were bare and that is how I felt about my romantic life.

There's nothing like a diamond is there? My gaudy magpie type of taste also inclines me to red rubies to reflect my passion, sapphires match my eyes, opals compliment my feminine allure and mystery. Diamonds simply reflect my sparkle and brilliance. Oooh – I'm just so easy to please! As yet I have no emeralds – but I have to be careful not to go out looking like traffic signals. When Shannon sees the necklace she's not even sure what she's looking at.

“My God, my God.” She was staring at the most beautiful piece of jewellery she had ever seen.
“What is it?”
“It’s a necklace.”
“Duh!’
“It’s white gold with pear shaped rose diamonds.”

Book Blurb:

Wild child inner-city cop Shannon Aguerri walks a dangerous line between her methods and justice. When the bosses lose their nerve, after yet another maverick mission, she is transferred to green pastures to play out the role of a routine village cop. When she encounters signs of slave and drug trafficking she homes in on serious millionaire criminals.

As a loner she has attracted men but nothing has stuck. When she meets Spencer, the hunky and widowed Earl of Bloxington, there is an immediate rapport between them. Their social differences mean nothing to their passion and need.

Already in the mix is an upper class female rival – who has long plotted her way into the Earl's bed. The jealousy is an evil shade of green and the anger is a violent scarlet.

Often inhibited by a sense of duty and honour, Spencer is slow to reveal his feelings. When Shannon confronts him with the need to choose between her word and that of her rival, he does not immediately support her.

All issues are set aside, when they are forced together to carry out a desperate rescue mission. Their love is stronger than everything ranged against them.

Book Review + Giveaway: The Devil Wears Scrubs by Freida McFadden

Blurb: Newly minted doctor Jane McGill is in hell.

Not literally, of course. But between her drug addict patients, sleepless nights on call, and battling wits with the sadistic yet charming Sexy Surgeon, Jane can’t imagine an afterlife much worse than her first month of medical internship at County Hospital.

And then there’s the devil herself: Jane’s senior resident Dr. Alyssa Morgan. When Alyssa becomes absolutely hell-bent on making her new interns pay tenfold for the deadly sin of incompetence, Jane starts to worry that she may not make it through the year with her soul or her sanity still intact.

Imagine this: You just became a Medicine Intern. All you wish for is your first day to go right as planned and everything falling into perfect order. But you realize there’s a thin line between dreams and realities. Because…
1.      You not-so-late arrive late.
2.       Your resident is the epitome of the devil without the bad red flaming skin.
3.       When all the nurses call you doctor there are scare quotes attached to it.
4.       Your partner intern is a (scheming) DERMATOLOGIST.
5.       All your resident does is to discuss wedding rings with your partner intern and give you the stink eye whenever you don’t have an answer to the cure for Alzheimer’s.
6.      None of your patients recognize your title and keep referring to you by endearments.

For fucksakes, you thought this would be cake. You can handle arriving late. Your resident? You’ve endured high school enough to handle super-bitchy people.  The scare quotes? It’s a nurse thing, probably because they can’t phantom the idea of being there twenty years only to take orders from someone who’s been there for less than twenty-four hours. Your derm intern? Just being nice to her might solve the problem. After all, you are not going to be spending all your days in the hospital. Whenever you get home there’d be some peace. Peace you could use to pee and eat something (since you never have that at the hospital).

But…
1.         Except you would be spending all your days in the hospital.
2.       You get home and there’s a roommate who wants to make laws on everything.
3.       Said roommate has made cleaning laws for the bathroom (so peeing becomes difficult).
4.       Said roommate has warned you not to ever touch her stuff, which includes her fork (making eating difficult).

All you have is another intern friend fighting tooth to nail to regulate blood-sugar levels of her dearest patient, Val, her cat. And maybe the gorgeous, Sexy Surgeon who you are not sure you want to sleep with or inject a syringe into.

Jane McGill’s life all summed up for you utmost entertainment.

I’ve said this, day in day out, that my most favorite series I can watch reruns of without ever dozing off is Grey’s Anatomy. So is there any reason why I should have scrunch up my brows at this title? Let’s see…

First of all, I dig Jane, the M.C. I thought her voice was fresh and had this Kinsella-like appeal that would want you to keep reading more about her. Perhaps it was because she was too good-hearted or because she was well-crafted. She’s definitely going down on my list for most fav. characters.──

Secondly, this book was hilarious. Nothing short of. Maybe it didn’t get me laughing very hard. But it was witty and kept me smiling all along. And everyone knows how I’m such a sucker for humor.── ★★

Thirdly, the cast of characters were amazing. Alyssa Morgan, the bitchy resident who’d insist on our lead girl getting sticky notes because they happen to be ‘effective’ in the medical department. Or Connie, the scheming derm who always wanted to have her way. Nina, the friend who was always worried sick about her cat getting type-two diabetes. Julia, the roommate who was always pissed you’d think she was born that way. Sexy Surgeon, aka, Ryan whose annoying yet sexy tendencies could really be a turn-on (if I was looking to be turned on by a surgeon). They all lived up to the essence of their appearance in the title!── ★★★

Did I love that this book was easy to read and understand despite the fact that my only connection to the world of medicine is my knowledge qualifying every drug as a painkiller? Yes, yes! It’s broken down into simpler forms with all the terms explained in a way, by our lead girl, which didn’t seem like an attempt to label you, the reader, dumb. It’s your Handbook To Avoid Saying ‘Huh?’ Whenever You Are Being Diagnosed. It taught me doctors hated it when they have to stick their fingers into our butts, but do it anyway with a smile because it’s the only sure way to save our lives. It taught me secrets about my dermatologist I would never have known, very treacherous secrets. Perhaps the career-ending book to all dermatologists’ careers. Or that medical interns call a weekend they actually get all two days off, a golden weekend. Much like how we call our own weekends but with more shimmer. So much medical terms all brought to light in a, well, funny light.── ★★★★

This book rose issues on hospital quickies, death, loss, relationships, and happiness.

Is there a sub-genre in chick-lit called medical chick-lit? Well, if there isn’t, there should. And if there is, Freida McFadden should be made queen of it.── ★★★★★

My rating: Obviously....

The Devil Wears Scrubs is available on Amazon. Go grab it!

Freida McFadden is giving away…a Rafflecopter giveaway

I recommend this book to anyone who loves their chick-lit fresh, funny and fantastic! Anyone who would want a glimpse into the not-so-glamorous life of a medical intern could also run for this title. Anyone who wants romance to swoon at should also grab this too.

Now, anytime your doctor asks if you know what that medical term means, you can tell him to his face, so he knows just because you are a little sick doesn’t give him cause to think you are sick in the head.

My work not done here. Off to post my review on Goodreads.

Niecey Roy knew she wanted to be a writer from a very young age, but her moment of enlightenment came after watching the movie You’ve Got Mail. It was then she realized her place in life, and happily parked her butt on writing romance. Her dream was to create sexy vixens, hunky, half-naked heroes, and above all, romance; lots and lots of butterflies in the belly, breathless first kisses and happily-ever-afters.
When she’s not at her day job where she works as a legal assistant, she can be found at home at a cluttered desk, pounding her tired little fingers away on a keyboard with nothing but black pepper flavored sunflower seeds and Visine as her weapons for mass-romance-novel-creation. When her fingers need a break, you’ll find her at a table with friends, drinking a few martinis and showing off a new pair of (sometimes ridiculous) high heels. She’s usually the loudest at the table and most often the one snorting with laughter.
Niecey is the author of Fender Bender Blues, a contemporary romantic comedy published by The Wild Rose Press. Her new novel to be released November 2013, Another Shot At Love, is the first novel in the What’s Love??? series.

About the Author

Aven Ellis has been writing fiction since she was sixteen. She studied communications at a large Midwestern university, and after graduation, Aven worked as a reporter for a community newspaper, followed by a stint at a public relations agency.

But writing about city council meetings and restaurant franchises was not as much fun as writing for young women trying to figure out their careers and potential boyfriends. So Aven got herself a job in television that allowed her to write at night.  Connectivity is Aven’s debut novel; Waiting For Prince Harry and Chronicles of a Lincoln Park Fashionista (New Adult romantic comedy) will be published this year.

Aven lives in Dallas with her family. When she is not writing, Aven enjoys shopping, cooking, connecting with friends on social media, and watching any show that features Gordon Ramsay.

Valentine's Book Review + Giveaway: Big Girl Panties by Stephanie Evanovich

Stephanie Evanovich pens a fine debut that deals with weight-loss, body image and redefining what society considers 'obese' from the point-of-view of a not-so-size-zero character.

Blurb: In BIG GIRL PANTIES, Evanovich introduces readers to Holly Brennan—a 32-year old grieving widow in need of a change. Having spent too much time mired in sadness and grief-eating, Holly heads out of town to settle her husband’s estate and try to move on. Enter Logan Montgomery—a personal trainer to the country’s most famous professional athletes who also happens to be sitting next to her on the flight home.

Holly’s mortified by the way she’s squeezed into the airplane seat, butas they chat, Logan quickly realizes she has a sharp wit and keen insight—a welcome change from the sexy but superficial women he usually dates. When he impulsively offers to train her at his private gym, Holly surprises even herself and agrees.

Holly discovers she’s a natural athlete, and as her fitness level increases, so does a new found confidence. When Logan finally introduces Holly to his best friends, baseball superstar Chase Walker and his wife Amanda (a feisty curvy woman herself), they instantly see what Logan doesn’t; Holly is knockout. As their smoldering attraction starts to spark in earnest,Holly and Logan will have to decide if their love is for real…or just about looks.

BIG GIRL PANTIES is a fun, sexy, smart, and exceptionally saucy romp—a must-have book for the summer and a debut not to be missed.

Holly suffers a loss hard to deal with: the loss of a spouse. For two years she's been locked up in a world of tears and comfort-eating. Who knew too much bingeing and ice cream could make you bloat over proportions that could crash a beam balance? There must be an exception for when you are grieving. But no, besides lack of time to apply any amount of makeup, do your hair and have reason to get into that Little Big Black Dress, there's the ginormous strata of belly, the unflattering stretch-mark ridden thigh, the double chin that might just give way for a third and the back that looks like a sword was run through it vertically. Still, Holly might think she's a fat, walking disaster (only if she has the courage to stare herself in the mirror), no man wants an obese walking disaster. But little does she know personal trainers would kill to trim that fat arse.

Logan Montgomery—hot, sexy, personal trainer, rumoured to date the thick-headed plastic size-zero blond types and dumps them right when they manage to string words together for a sentence—meets Holly. It's disgust at first sight. Surely there must be a reason someone would horde that much food in her system and he's aching to find out why. He's struck with sympathy for Holly after finding out the reason behind her BMI being fatter than a woman's overnight bag. He proposes to help trim that ass, Holly agrees tentatively.

In a matter of weeks, Holly doesn't expect to be turning heads of guys neither does she ever think she'd ever be able to shop at the size twelve section at Macy's. Now thanks to Logan she's even hanging out with baseball star, Chase Walker and his wife Amanda chinking glasses with the crème de la crème of the sports scene attending charity galas and enjoying front row seats at baseball games.

Logan is watching Holly morph into a confident, sassy and sexy woman. You heard right, sexy woman. All he wanted to do was trim that ass, but for some reason, he wants to tap,tap all over it.

There are somethings everyone wants to see these days in a chicklit title before clicking the ADD TO CART icon.

1. Everyone wants a relatable heroine. Holly is relatable. I love that she holds this appeal for the plus-sized for being, well, plus-sized. It's such a nice change when it isn't a size-zero silhouetted glamazon dangling shopping bags on her arm on a chicklit cover. After this novel, maybe meat-on-bones might be the in-thing in chicklit. Also, our slim, trendy sisters should dig this title because, the ginormous self-pity you see in some Big characters is hardly seen in Holly thanks to her funny cynicism and wisecracks.—★

2. Everyone wants a title with a lesson that is timeless in society. Stephanie Evanovich picks up a touchy subject and delivers it so perfectly without rising tempers. We all care about our cellulites, or the little flags we have pulling down our underarms, or whether we need to have that chin tuck surgery or the lipo. Holly says, "It all doesn't matter as long as you are healthy!" Society isn't every guy! We all have preferences, we are human we don't look alike. Why then for some reason it should ever cross your mind that because you shop at a two-digit section, you can't attract attention! Lessons about dealing with loss, Body Image are paramount in this title, and definitely earns it a star from me—★★

3. Everyone wants something steamy. The sex in this title is hot, naughty. Who knew gym sex could be so fun? Especially when it is with a trainer you ladies would roll your eyes into your heads for the numerous mouth-watering positions he's capable of getting you into, all in the name of losing that extra pound. You wouldn't believe me. But every time there was a sex scene I'd hop onto my bed, lie down and read. All. Through. The. Killer. Orgasm. Abstinence till marriage can be a real sucker, you know. —★★★ (Sorry for that much details into my sex life).

4. Rom-coms go with super-romantic and swoon-worthy endings. I loved, loved the ending of this title. It was creative and left me feeling all ooey-gooey. Big Girl Panties' ending might just get on my list of best rom-com endings in life—★★★★

On a general note, I liked this book. It was fine. But it could have been fantastic if it hadn't limited me to one LOL moment, everyone knows humor is a Big thing for me and I wish the humor was amped a bit. I also wished much job was done on the supporting cast, I'd love that they had a little—How do I put it?—flesh (pun very well intended).

My rating stands at four stars!

I totally recommend this title to anyone who's the least worried about their body image. Anyone who's quite the fitness goddess. Anyone who wants something with lessons they can nod to. Anyone who loves their chicklit steamy and sexified!

You can stand the chance of winning Big Girl Panties!
